What Our Volunteers Say...

Picture

Belle Arnold

Belle has been volunteering at the gallery for the past two years after having several exhibitions of sculptures, vases and wall hangings she creates from her hand-made felt.

"I wanted to volunteer to give time to the gallery and something back to the community.  The gallery is an important part of our community. It is a beautiful space and significantly, it's very reasonable to have an exhibition, particularly for artists who may not have huge amounts of money. So it's win/win because this community and the broader community have the benefit of free access to a very high standard of art."

Joyce Laidlaw

Joyce "popped into the gallery" to see if she could exhibit one of her landscape paintings.   She signed up immediately as a member and volunteer after chatting with other volunteers that day.

"Initially, I was very nervous, particularly about using the Square payment system.  But, I've always been able to get help and answers to my questions. And I love chatting with customers - some come from overseas, interstate, and locally. There was one elderly couple who once lived in the area years before and were visiting for the first time in ages, which was extra special."

Linda Chalmers

Linda has helped at the Gallery for just over 10 years and loves the combination of working with art and people in a beautiful historical and garden setting.

“I love that I can spend time in this creative space and hopefully make a difference by helping our members sustain and grow their art.  I see my volunteer role as contributing to growing art in our community, sharing our local creative talent with visitors, and enlivening the space for our members. The rich stories embedded in the creative process of each piece are what stand out in the pieces in our gallery.
There’s something to do at the gallery that suits anyone”
