3D Artist of the Month
Barb MacDougal is the 3D Artist for June in the Signal Room.
And what an extraordinary introduction she had to her chosen art!
Because she wanted to learn pottery back in the 70's, Barb and a couple of friends started a potting group in Winton.
The group, which eventually grew to 15 members were given a house by the local shire council! And the Flying School of the Arts flew in tutor potters. Those tutors included some highly distinguished artists including Western Australia's Joan Campbell, also known as a leading teacher and fearless political campaigner for the arts in the 70's, and Carl McConnell, described as the most important potter in the post World War II generation in QLD.
After a long spell away from pottery, Barb returned to her love about 8 years ago when she moved to Gympie and joined the Gympie Pottery Group.
Her "current interest - quirky fish figures incorporating driftwood", will be among pieces for her exhibition.

The Signal Room is the main gallery for 2D art by our members. The art work is changed over every two months , so there's always something new to see at the gallery.
The Signal Room also features a 3D Artist of the Month.

About the Signal Room:
The Signal Room was moved across as part of the transfer of buildings from the station to where the gallery is now. During transport the building collapsed, it was discovered that it had a termite infestation.
Jan, a key volunteer on the project, decided to rebuild the room and add an extension – creating a much bigger space for the gallery.
